Hersham Golf Club

Hersham Golf Club in Surrey is a course of two parts.   Two thirds of the course is lovely parkland whereas the latter part of the course feels to have been created more recently.   Definitely enjoyed the challenge of this course although not on my top ten list.

Course Location

Sunbury Golf Centre

Sunbury Golf Centre situated alongside the M3 as you leave London was a course I didn’t exactly enjoy.  Long grass on the academy course fairways meant finding even well hit balls a bit of a challenge.

Course Location

Hampton Court Palace Golf Club

Hampton Court Palace Golf Club in the grounds of Henry VIII’s palace has a very open and almost Scottish links feel to it.  I suspect wind can have quite an impact on a round here.  My favourite hole is the Par 3 17th.  The hole has 3 bunkers protecting the green which makes it extra interesting.   Definitely recommended course.  Watch out for the wild deer that roam the course though !

Course Location

Malden Golf Club

Malden Golf Club is a be a beautiful park land course surrounded by the southern suburbs of London.   Really enjoyed this course as did my dad.  In fact he would have scored his best ever round anywhere (a sub twenty over par round) if it hadn’t been for a crazy 10 shot ninth hole.

Course Location

Strawberry Hill Golf Club

Strawberry Hill Golf Club is surrounded by London suburbs and has a very interesting history.   It’s a challenging course with a few long Par 3’s.   My memory is having players in a group behind us wondering why I wasn’t teeing off when there were people still on the green 230 yards away.   When the green was clear I hit my driver, Green In Regulation and got a par.  That’s why I waited.

Course Location

Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club

The Shanklin & Sandown Golf Course is where I had a Wee Wonders South West England qualifier event.

Course Location

Wells Golf Club

Wells Golf Club is a lovely park land course set just outside of Wells in Somerset which is the smallest city in England.  The course is a nice mix of holes featuring challenging, undulating tight and open fairways.   The back nine holes are flatter by comparison to the front nine.

This course is well worth a visit and I was pleased to score 16 over.  Don’t ask dad how much he got…

I also want to give a shout out to the Junior Club Captain who introduced himself and was friendly.

Course Location

Farrington Park Golf Club

Farrington Park Golf Club located halfway between Wells & Bristol has 9 & 18 hole courses.  It is the location for the South West of England Wee Wonders regional final in 2017.

I had a practise round in June 2017 on the 9 hole.  We had a really windy morning on the course and therefore found it fairly challenging.  That said it’s really interesting designed and the greens are great quality, fast and true.

One thing to add…. don’t necessarily trust Google Maps to get you there.  We ended up a few miles away.

Course Location

Swingrite Golf Centre

The Swingrite Golf Centre near Taunton in Somerset is built on a small parcel of land surrounded by fields.  It won’t measure up against some standards but it’s great to see this resource where there aren’t that many golf playing opportunities for kids.
